Riverhaven is situated in a beautiful rural setting and is a perfect “Haven” for family holidays. Set in its own grounds Riverhaven is nestled into the shores of Lough Key and the Boyle River in an area of scenic natural beauty. Families are free to roam through the family farm and enjoy the cattle and “Misty” the Connemara pony who loves to eat carrots and toast!!

Most families enjoy a leisurely and educational walk through our private forest and along the river and sometimes stopping to do a spot of fishing. Lakeboats are available for guests use and are really popular with children. Life jackets are provided and outboard engines for those who wish to explore the beauty of Lough Key with its many historic Islands including the romantic “Castle Island” best known for the love story and legend of Úna Bhán. A special treat for some guests is to picnic on one of the Islands amongst the undisturbed flora and fauna while enjoying the tranquillity of the water lapping on the lakeshore limestone rocks. A walk in the “Bluebell woods” is also a nice way to spend a relaxing day.
This is a perfect location for families especially due to the fact that Lough Key Forest and Activity Park is within 5 minutes drive away. Zipit, Boda Borg and the tree canopy walk are but a few of the many interesting and educational aspects of this beautiful park with its underground tunnels, viewing tower and boat tours of Lough Key. The “Fairy Bridge”, “Drummonds Island”, the Azaleas in the “Bog Gardens” and the many way-marked forest walks provide hours of pleasure for visitors to the Forest Park.
To the north of Riverhaven just 7 miles away isIreland’s only underground mining museum at Arigna. A visit to the mining experience is both educational and enjoyable, with guided tours given by the miners who worked there until 1990 when coal mining ceased and the underground tunnel was developed as a tourist attraction with in excess of 25,000 visitors annually.
Be it raining or sunny there is a choice of outdoor or indoor activities for families to enjoy within easy reach of Riverhaven. It is a perfect location which is central to Sligo, Donegal,Galway or Enniskillen all within 1.5 hours drive away.
